P4. Woman experienced an incident at the Berlin Zoo

Mandy K, 32, experienced an incident at the Berlin Zoo on Friday after entering the bear enclosure during feeding time. She climbed over a wall, a row of bushes, and a fence to get inside the area.

As she entered, a bear approached her, resulting in some injuries. Six zookeepers worked to distract the four bears, but one bear bit her on the arms and legs. After managing to scare the bear away, the zookeepers were able to assist Mandy.

She underwent surgery to treat her injuries and is currently recovering in the hospital.

A zoo spokesperson expressed concern about the incident, highlighting the associated risks and the challenges faced by the zookeepers during the rescue.

It was revealed that Mandy, a teacher, had been experiencing difficulties finding employment. This incident has raised questions about mental health and the challenges people face in stressful situations.

Zoo officials are reviewing security protocols to prevent such incidents in the future. They urge visitors to be aware of the potential risks when near wild animals and to respect safety barriers.
